NorCal Extreme 2010/2011 SeasonWelcome to NorCal Extreme, a family of traveling, tournament level roller hockey teams. As an organization we strive to maintain a constructive, but competitive environment in which each skater can develop to his or her fullest potential as an individual and as a hockey player. As an organization we are committed to player development as well as to being competitive at the regional and national level. To this end, we will field "tiered" teams in all age groups in which the number of players is sufficient to permit fielding of 2 teams. In age groups with only one team, opportunities will be available to practice and play as a member of a developmental squad. All players will compete in the local SIHL series, but the rosters for the higher level tournaments (AAU, NARCH) will be selected by the coaching staff to field the strongest, most competitive teams. The specific goals of each team will be established as the squads are formed, but the fundamental goal of our organization is always to compete at the highest level of tournament play appropriate to the make up of each team. Players can and will move between rosters based on developing skills of individual players and team goals to compete at the highest appropriate level for a given squad.OrganizationNorcal Extreme is a nonprofit organization managed by a board of directors who are responsible for all decisions that are made in response to recommendations from the coaches and a committee of parent representatives from each team. The intent is to allow the coaches to focus their efforts on player and team development while the board and parent representatives take care of administrative tasks. Coaches from each team, together with parent representatives, coordinate activities both within the individual teams and between teams in the organization.SeasonTournament hockey involves a commitment to an extended season. Each team will practice on average 3 hours each week and participate in one to two tournaments each month. Players are expected to attend all practices and tournaments. Tryouts are in November, practice and warm-up tournaments are held in the late fall. The season begins in October, and depending on tournaments ended will end at latest in July.EligibilityLast year the program included seven teams: Atoms (8 and under), Mites (10 and under), Squirts (12 and under), Pee Wees (14 and under), and Bantams (16 and under). Player eligibility for the upcoming season is determined by their age on 1 January 2012. Girls may play a year longer in each age group, e.g., 11 year-old girls may play in the 10s division.CoachesDrew Kumata, who led the 14s in a strong appearance in the Narch Finals 2009, will be coaching the 12s, 14s, and 16s. Current coaching assignments for the other age groups are still to be determined. In addition, each age level will have assistant coaches who will help with practice and travel with teams to tournaments as either the assistant or primary coach, depending upon staffing commitments.FeesThe organization utilizes fundraising opportunities such as eScrip and paper scrip to keep fees as low as possible. Nevertheless, tournament roller hockey remains an expensive activity. Total fees are calculated to pay for coaches, rink rental, SIHL tournament fees, and organizational costs. Families may pay for the entire season, through 15 July or on a monthly basis. The fees may be paid monthly or for the whole season. For more information, contact the current president. For billing purposes, the season has two main sessions, November & December, and then January through mid-July. Nov-Dec are combined into a single fee, due 1 December. Your Nov-Dec bill will include a non-refundable registration charge of $100 that is used to cover organizational costs, plus practice fees. Nov/Dec charges vary by team owing to their practice schedules. All costs are approximated based on last years fees, they are subject to change. UniformsPlayers are responsible for purchasing their own uniforms, which include both home and away jerseys and pants. Approximate cost will be $150 per player. InsuranceNorCal Extreme players are covered under insurance provided by AAU membership. Youth AAU membership is also being used by Davis Inline Hockey Association (DIHA), Davis Blue Devils Hockey Club (Davis High School Hockey), and Extreme. Community ServiceNorCal Extreme solicits and receives substantial support from local businesses. In return, the organization strongly encourages community service contributions from all team members. The extent and details of this service are part of the seasonal goals developed by each age group. For example, in the past, Extreme players taught Special Olympics participants skating and hockey skills. |
